The França Borges Garden, named in honor of the republican journalist of the same name, is also known as the Príncipe Real Garden.
Inspired by the English romantic model, it features the monumental and centuries-old “Buçaco cedar,” the garden’s ex-libris, standing over 20 meters tall, as well as the surrounding mansions, which are a testament to 19th-century Romantic Lisbon.
Also dating back to this period is the Patriarcal Reservoir, built beneath the garden and now part of EPAL’s Water Museum.
The Marquis of Pombal Square (Portuguese: Praça do Marquês de Pombal) is an important roundabout in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. It is located between the Avenida da Liberdade (Liberty Avenue) and the Eduardo VII Park in the former parish of Coração de Jesus and in the quarter of Santo António.
The square is the radiating point for various important avenues: Liberdade, Duque de Loulé and Fontes Pereira de Melo, as well as the streets Braamcamp and Joaquim António de Aguiar.
The Jardim das Amoreiras, also known as Marcelino Mesquita Garden, is a peaceful green space in Lisbon created in 1759 with the planting of mulberry trees to support the silk industry. Framed by the Aqueduto das Águas Livres, it features a central fountain, shady trees, a playground, and a kiosk with a terrace. Surrounded by historic buildings like the old silk factory and the Mãe d’Água reservoir, it’s a quiet spot to relax right in the heart of the city.
The Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara is one of Lisbon’s most iconic viewpoints, located in the Bairro Alto. From its terraced garden you get sweeping views over downtown Lisbon, the castle and the Tagus River. It’s a lively spot with a small fountain, statues, kiosks and often live music, perfect for enjoying the city’s atmosphere both by day and at night.
